Waypoint+ v1.8.03
1) Added support for more eTrex versions.
2) Window is not "live" during downloads which now can be cancelled once started.
2000, February 22Waypoint+ v1.8.00
1) Added support for some versions of the eTrex. (I really do not like the eTrex user interface)
1999, March 19
Waypoint+ v1.7.11 Release Notes
1) Added the ability to "locate" tracks and waypoints from the whiteboard in Street Atlas. This is done by pointing to a particular track of waypoint, right clicking on it, and choosing the Locate function for the waypoint or track. Note, Street Atlas must be running for this to be useful.
1999, March 11
Waypoint+ v1.7.10 Release Notes
1) Added saving of screen bitmap to a file
2) Fixed id'ing of GPS-III for screen image download
3) Added in v1.7.09 - ability to zoom Street Atlas to the location of a given Waypoint. Note: this feature has a new "Map Options" window that controls the appearance of Waypoints in Street Atlas. You can also locate multiple waypoint by first highlighting the one you want to view in Street Atlas.
4) v1.7.08 added support for the screen image of a GPS-III+
1998, July 17
Waypoint+ v1.7.07 Release Notes
1) Added Export data format for CartaLinx, part of the Idrisi Project of Clark Labs for Cartographic Technology and Geography Analysis. See http://www.idrisi.clarku.edu.
2) Added full support for the Garmin 12XL v4.0 receiver.
3) Added New new item on the GPS menu, Model Code. When adding support for newer models, this code will be helpful to know.
4) Datum definition is now in an external file called Datum.txt. Additional Datums can be added to this file for use with Waypoint+.
1998, May 3

Waypoint+ v1.7.02 Release Notes
Fixes:
1) Plot Window Repaint routine has been changed. Plot window often overwrote editor window.
New:
1) Nominal support for GPS-III. Icons are now preserved in data downloaded from the GPS receiver. Editing of Icon data is not available in 1.7.02. 1.7.02 fully supports the Icons of the GPS-II+ 2) From the Plot window, you can now select a waypoint and upload it to the GPS receiver
3) From the Plot window, you can now select a single track and upload it to the GPS receiver.
4) In the Plot window, you can now selective delete single track points.
5) In the Plot window, you can create a new waypoint at a selected track point.
6) In the Plot window, the track number, track point number with in that track and track point number of the total track points loaded into currently in Waypoint+ are displayed in the Status Bar. This can then easily be used to determine the direction of travel with in a track. Travel proceeds from lower numbers to higher.
7) In the Plot window, you can now zoom the window to show a single selected track completely.
8) MN3 and SA5 files can be read by Waypoint+ directly. Waypoint+ writes SA4 files which are compatible with MN3 and SA5.
Know Issues:
1) Uploading of Icon waypoints to a Garmin 12XL v3.01 or higher causes the loss of the Icon which reverts to the generic Waypoint Icon.
2) Proximity Waypoints of a Garmin 12XL v3.51 may not be supported for upload and download in the receiver's firmware.
Waypoint+ V1.7.01
New:
1)Icons are saved in the TXT and SA4 formats besides in WPT. For the TXT files, 2 new fields have been added. These now come after the description field. The first new field is the icon. Currently this are listed A-P and corresponds to the Icons as shown in the Waypoint+ editor, left to right, top to bottom. The second field is the display mode on the GPS for that waypoint. There are 3 options: N = Waypoint Name; S = Waypoint Symbol ( Icons ) only; and C = Comment. Icons are translated to SA4 Icons and an extra field is added to the SA4 label. This field is the same field as the display field in the TXT file.
Fixes:
1) None
Waypoint+ V1.7.00
New:
1) Icon support for the GPS-12XL and II+, but only with WPT files. Be sure that the file waypoint.bmp is in the Waypoint+ directory.
2) Icons are preserved even after editing waypoint data for non-12XL and II+ receivers, but with WPT files only, and Icons can not be edited.
3) Waypoint+ will ask for confirmation before closing.
Notes) OK, so here is my first attempt at doing Icons with Waypoint+. First, let me say that my target receivers are the 12XL and II+. 1.7.00 will only support Icons for waypoints and route points at this time. 1.7.00 will allow for editing or adding Icons to 12XL and 45XL data and for the II+. If you download data from a GPSMAP 175 for example, Waypoint+ will not edit the Icon data. It will now preserve any Icon data that was entered on the 175 even after editing the waypoint name, lat/long or description. Icons are only preserved in WPT files. Icons are not currently supported in any other file type including SA4 and TXT files.

Waypoint+ V1.6.05
New:
1) Default workspace size is now 4 Mb. Waypoint+ will make the default workspace at least 4 Mb. However, the first run through will change it, but it will not take effect until the second run of Waypoint+.
Fixes:
1) UTM to Lat/Long conversion has had some bug fixes. The conversion process is now much better. If UTM is your primary mode of operation, the you need 1.6.05 or above. Prior version introduced a 7-10 meter Westward creep with EACH conversion for UTM to LL.
2) Waypoint+ ID's the Garmin GPS-12XL correctly. v1.6.04 did not. Also, all GPS-12 firmware 3.00 and above is assumed to have Icons. If you have a GPS-12 ( not XL ) which supports Icons and has firmware 2.xx, Waypoint+ will not edit your data correctly since it assumes that you have a GPS-12XL. (Garmin has not made it easy for us here ).
Please let me know if you have problems. If you have problems with Waypoint+ and a specific GPS model and firmware version, please send me:
1) What Waypoint+ reports as the GPS ID. This is found under the GPS menu on the main Waypoint+ window. 2) Sample Waypoints, Routes, and Proximity Waypoints in .WPT format. This will help me alter Waypoint+ to support that particular receiver.
Waypoint+ V1.6.04
New:
1) You can now print the Plot window either Portrait or Landscape. HOWEVER, it is a bit of a kludge. You must do 2 things to properly print landscape. First, from the configuration screen, choose Landscape under the Plot Options tab. Then, choose the print option from the Plot window. Choose Landscape AGAIN, and then print. If you are going to print Portrait, be sure the Configuration is set to Portrait. Why do I do this way? Because I have not figured out how to get the printer structure after the Print Setup dialog box goes away from APL. So, I'm not sure how to scale the data before printing. This is a patch until I figure it all out.
But you CAN now print Landscape if you want to.
2) Waypoint+ will now remember what file type you prefer for Opening and Saving files. ( Kazuo, for you! )
3) Garmin now has a GPS-12XL v3.02 that support Icons. The structure of the proximity waypoints is different from any other Garmin receiver I have observed. I believe that Waypoint+ will recognize them properly. I've tried to keep Waypoint+ compatible with most Garmin GPS receivers.
Fixes:
1) None
Waypoint+ V1.6.03
New:
1) Support for the GPSMAP 135, 175 and 195, GPS-90, and GPS-II+. Waypoint+ provides the same support for these receivers as it does for the 12XL or 45XL. That is, it will not support Icons. Waypoint+ supplies a defaultIcon only. Support for GPS-90 v2.05 or before is unknown but assumed.
2) Track points now can have actual ( UTC ) time associated with a track. This way, one can combine tracks from several sources and compare time relationships, or you think of another use. :)
3) Routes written into SA4 can now have lines drawn between waypoints. See the configuration window.
4) I'm changing the general format of my TXT files. The program will still read the old files, but write only the new files. The new format will only change the line definition word. These can be in upper or lower case, or any combination.

Fixes:
1) 1.6.00 could not read SA4 files, 1.6.03 will again read them.
Waypoint+ V1.6.02
New:
1) An internal beta for support of GPS-90 and GPS-II+
Fixes:
1) None
Waypoint+ V1.6.01
New:
1) I have now added support for GPSMAP 135, GPSMAP 175, and GPSMAP 195. Note that these units support Icons and Waypoint+ does not. Effectively, Waypoint+ 1.6.01 afford the same support for these new units as it does for the 12XL. That is, anything that Waypoint+ does for the 12XL, it will do for these new units. Upload and download Waypoints+Routes+Tracks and save the data in any of the supported file types. You should now be able to download data from a GPS 12XL and immediately upload it to a GPSMAP 195. Waypoint+ converts all edited or converted data to the generic Dot icons on those units that support Icons. I hope to have a version available for the GPS-II+ as soon as I can receive sample waypoints and routes from a GPS-II+ and when I know what the Waypoint+ GPS|ID function returns from a GPS-II+.
Note that not all Waypoint+ features have been tested with the new routines. Please report any anomalies.
Waypoint+ 1.6.01 has the single configuration window introduced in 1.6.00
Fixes:
1) None
Waypoint+ V1.6.00
New:
1) Single screen for most configuration parameters. Not included are Datum and Com Port.
2) Auto-update of SA4 is now enabled for Win95 only. If running WinNT, Waypoint+ will not attempt to update SA4
Fixes:

Waypoint+ V1.5.20
New:
1) I've changed the plot routine to scale the data based on the center and the Latitude. I've taken the (Cos Latitude) and multiplied it times the spacing of the Longitude. So the farther North the center, the closer together the Longitude lines. Maybe produces less distortion?
Fixes:
1) None
Waypoint+ V1.5.19
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
1)Allows for tracks to be up to 999 hours. I suppose I could have just done 99 hours. As it was, I only allowed for 24 hours. I might scale it back to 99 hours, 59 min and 59 seconds.
Waypoint+ V1.5.18
New:
(1) A total of the distance and time will also be displayed in the caption of the Track Summary window. Note that if you delete a segment, the program does not update the caption at this time. ( this was done for speed on my slooow computer ).
(2) In the Plot window, Waypoint+ now calculates the nearest track point and will display this information in the Status Bar. Note that this is the nearest Track Point, not the line. So to identify a given track segment reliably, move the cursor to an inflection point in a given track segment. Waypoint+ will then identify reliably which track segment the point belongs to.
Fixes:
1) None
Waypoint+ V1.5.17
New:
1) In the Track summary window, you can now "Join" segments together. Using the Ctrl key, highlight the segments you want to join, and click the "Join Segments". You can also double click while doing the last selection and choose Join in the popup menu.
Fixes:
1) Fixed something in track summary, can't remember what.
Waypoint+ V1.5.16
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
1) Track summary would show units of Miles when the displayed data was Nautical Miles, and when the displayed units was Nautical Miles, the values were miles. Meter/Kilometers was OK.
Waypoint+ V1.5.15
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
1) This version fixes a bug when that occurs when choosing a font and then clicking Cancel in the font dialog box.
Waypoint+ V1.5.14
New:
1) Waypoint+ will now print the "Plot" window. You can choose the font for the Grid label and Waypoint/Routepoint label. These fonts will be displayed in the Plot window and on the system printer. ( Orientation is not yet selectable - haven't figured out how to do it yet! )
2) The track summary has been changed. The summary will be in the units that have been chosen in from the main window, File|Units. This will be displayed as a Track segment number, distance, average velocity, duration in segment, start date/time, stop date/time.
3) You can now delete individual track segments. Select the track segments NUMBER you want to delete, then double click on them. A popup menu showing "Delete Segment" will appear. Click this menu item and highlighted segment will deleted from memory. You can delete multiple segments at a time by either holding the shift key or control key while selecting the desired segment to be deleted, and while still holding the shift or control key, double click the left mouse button. The menu will appear and you can then delete the segments.

Waypoint+ V1.5.13
New:
1) Internal Beta version of printing for Waypoint+.
Fixes:
1) None
Waypoint+ V1.5.12
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
1) Storage of data in text files did not always convert to the proper datum and back. This affected waypoints, routes, and tracks. This had to do with changing datums. If you did not change datums, particularly, WGS84, there should be no problem. The best sign of the problem is that the program would NOT write a text file. If a text file was written, then is should (probably) be OK. This can up with NAD27-Alaska to be particular. This only affected text files. Reading them should be OK
Waypoint+ V1.5.11
New:
1) Combined SA4 plot includes "zoom" to show proximity circle.
Fixes:
1) Will not crash when there is only ONE data point ( of any kind ) when saving in SA4 format.
Waypoint+ V1.5.10
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
1) 1.5.09 and several versions before that, did not read SA4 route data. ( Actually, it read it, it just did not decode it, at all ). 1.5.10 now reads SA4 routes again and decodes them properly.
Waypoint+ V1.5.09
New:
1) Proximity waypoint can now be saved to an SA4 file independent of other data types and zoom is set to show the entire proximity circle.
2) When saving an SA4 file with SA4 running, the file is "dropped" into SA4 and can be viewed immediately and automatically. OLE!
Fixes:
1) Serial port parameters changed again. Hopefully, less "Index Errors" Downloading is improved on certain machines.
Waypoint+ V1.5.08
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
Well, it seems that the "work around" in v1.5.07 caused another bug. I've fixed, again. I found that my timings were "a little tight" and I could cause the program to "crash" at will by manipulating other programs. I've loosen the timings on the serial port and added a line of code to check for the latest "edge" condition. I've not been able to make this version hang up. But..........
Sorry for all the updates recently. I do find that I am getting about 6 waypoint and 12 track points per second on the download. This is as good as PCX5 on my machine. I don't think I can get it much faster.
Waypoint+ V1.5.07
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
1) Random "Index Errors" after downloading waypoint, routes, and tracks and then trying to manipulate the data. The problem was identified and a work around written. I can not again generate the problem, hopefully it is fixed this time.
I have removed the "Aviation" menu item in this version. The experimental code has been removed. I have tested this version with a GPS 90 and found that is could upload and download data correctly. I could edit the data and reupload without problem.
Waypoint+ V1.5.06
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
Corrects a problem with Track data and the POT format standard.
Waypoint+ V1.5.05
New:
1) Nothing
Fixes:
1) All storage routines have been edited to now make all description fields zero terminated. I'm not sure this will change anything for the 38,40, 45, II or 12. I did this to conform with what I see from the GPS receiver. (why did I not notice this before.)
2) Reading and Uploading CLG file route points would fail if the route point name was less than 6 letters. Works for name sizes 1-6 now.
3) POT format read failed with reading of waypoint names.
4) Still don't have the GPS-90 stuff completely working.
Waypoint+ V1.5.04
New:
1) When importing data from an SA4 file with proximity points, if there is a waypoint EXACTLY at the center of the proximity circle, Waypoint+ will name the proximity point with the name of that waypoint, otherwise, it will name them in order of creation in SA4, PROX1, PROX2, PROX3, etc.
Fixes:
1) Proximity waypoints distance is now read in the units specified in the TXT file. (1.5.03 always assumed meters Regardless of the units!)
Still Experimental
1) Aviation model GPS-90. We haven't got it right yet.....
Waypoint+ V1.5.03
New :
1) Import and Export of proximity waypoints in text (TXT) and SA4 format.
2) Track summary now reports total time in HH:MM:SS format instead of Seconds.
3) Experimental code for GPS-90, aviation units.
4) A new menu item has been added to the File menu, Units. This is for proximity points. Units can be Nautical Miles, Meters, or Statute Miles.
5) W+ remembers your Plot white board settings. Grid style, Labels on/off, etc...
Fixes:
Was there something I was supposed to fix?
Details:
A lot has changed in the actual code for 1.5.03. More support for the GPS-12XL has been added. Proximity waypoints now can be saved in Waypoint+ binary format, .WPT and in text format, .TXT and in SA4 format. The SA4 format for proximity waypoints is still "developing". No text data is associated with "circles" in SA4 so the waypoint name is lost in the translation. On way to circumvent this problem would be to put a waypoint at the center of the SA4 circle that represents the proximity waypoint. How ever, v1.5.03 allows for the creation of proximity waypoints in SA4, and it is very difficult to place 2 object at the same location using SA4 (Waypoint+ can do this ). Thus, all proximity waypoints for now will be read from SA4 with a name of PROXn and a description of "SA4 PRX POINT". Also, this version has some experimental code that adds support for the GPS-90 aviation unit. If you have one of these units, be sure to check the "Aviation" menu item under the GPS menu on the main window. What this does add the extra bytes that the GPS-90 expects for route points and waypoints. The waypoint editor and saved text files should still work with this format. This is experimental because I don't have a GPS-90 to test it on. More support is needed for proximity waypoints, they currently can not be edited with in W+ or plotted on the W+ white board. Note, the routines that read and write SA4 and TXT formats have been extensively rewritten, I have not noticed any problems reading or writing data, but.......
Waypoint+ V1.5.02
New:
1) New Serial Port routines. Should be much faster on slower machines.
2) New upload/download menu items under waypoints, routes, and tracks ( and proximity )
3) Can upload/download ALL data under GPS-Download/Upload- ALL. ( excludes the almanac )
4) You can check the internal and external voltage of the GPS receiver. See the GPS menu.
5) Under the Routes menu, you can convert route waypoints to regular waypoints
Fixes:
1) Can't plot routes from Route menu on main window. Fixed
2) Not all data types get converted to the current datum in the plot window. Fixed
Waypoint+ V1.5.01
Bug fixes.
1) Unable to write UTM text files and read them back. Error in writing the file corrected.
2) A particularly nasty bug: Example - this is the text file.
Datum,Australian Geodetic 1984,Australian National,-23,-0.00081204,-134,-48,149 Waypoint,DMS,BAYVIE,-33.400,151.180,12/31/1989,00:00:00,BAYVIEW
Waypoint,DMS,MANLY ,-33.480,151.170,12/31/1989,00:00:00,MANLY WARF
Waypoint,DMS,ROSEV ,-33.470,151.110,12/31/1989,00:00:00,roseville
The first and third waypoints read in fine. The second one does not. This
was found to be do round off error in about the 9 decimal place! This has been corrected. Also. Then displaying waypoints, some time one would see 151 10' 60" instead of 151 11" 00". I think this now fixed...
Waypoint+ V1.5.00
New :
(1) Multiple Datums Supported.
(2) When writing SA4 files, Waypoints and Routes can be encoded as a symbol with a name or as a map note. Map notes cover more real estate but are very visible. Symbols with text cover less but are less visible. You can now choose which you want.
(3) UTM support. UTM is displayed to the nearest meter. Internally, they are stored with "higher precision". Hey, this is GPS. +- 100 meters OK?
(4) When a waypoint is outside of the Latitudes where UTM is valid, the text "UPS" will replace the Zone, Easting and Northing information. Waypoint+ does not support UPS coordinates(Universal Polar Stereoscopic ). You can not edit these waypoints in UTM mode.
(5) POT Japanese Format Standard, Read and Write. Note: Tokyo Datum is assumed for POT files for both read and write and Waypoint+ ignores the current setting when reading and writing these files.
Fixes:
(1) CLG (Navigate) files only worked for North Latitude and West Longitude. Now works for the entire globe.
(2) Writing of SA3/4 files now valid for the entire globe. ( Best value is in the U.S., but will plot outside the US )
(3) Can not edit or enter new waypoints in UTM mode when South of -80 degrees or North of 84 degrees Latitude.
(4) Zones are numbered 1-60 as they should, not 0-59 as they were.
(5) When plotting waypoints and only one exists, plot scale is no less that .00001 degree across. When there was only one point, scale became zero and the waypoint was plotted in upper right corner. Now it plots in the center. This problem also sometimes caused program to crash.
(6) Zoom - If one zoom way in, a GPF could occur causing the program to terminate. Zooming in limited to .00001 degree across.
(7) Writing POT files, Invalid numbers some times occurred secondary to internal precision. I.E., 60' might show as 59'60". Data now rounded prior to presentation and writing of file data. Internal value unaffected.
(8) When a single waypoint is in memory and mode either DM or DMS, program would generate LENGTH ERROR with showing the waypoint list. This has been corrected.
(9) Plot window was in WGS-84 no matter what the chosen datum was. This is now corrected so Plot window plots in current datum.
(10) Track Summary works AGAIN. Also, if time data is lost do to reading from SA4 or uploading and then redownloading from the GPS, the 0 value is tested for and duration listed as zero as is the velocity. Waypoint+ will still calculate the distance traveled instead of an crash.
Waypoint+ V1.4.09
New:
1) It now remembers what mode you prefer between sessions.
Fixes:
1) Pan (clicking the left mouse button) in the Plot window, would capture the mouse and not allow any other function until a zoom was performed. Pan works again.
2) Right clicking in Plot window with no defined waypoints would crash the program.
Waypoint+ V1.4.08
1. The program remembers the port now! Yep, once you set it, it remembers it. Finally.
2. The zoom with the mouse in the plot windows has been "improved". That is, the window now
captures the mouse and once a zoom has been started, it goes to completion.
Waypoint+ V1.4.07
.07 fixes a number of problems previous versions with respect to importation of SA4 routes. Descriptions got truncated and several other side effects. I believe these have been corrected. Also the math for calculating several items with in an SA4 file has been tweaked. So, 1.4.07 in my mind supports SA4 fairly well now. I'm sure some of you will prove me wrong. Note that when exporting a route into SA4 style, it must be route 0 in Waypoint+.
Waypoint+ V1.4.05
It will read and write SA4 route data. The reading of SA4 route: the end points are labeled Start and Finish in SA4 speak. When writing an SA4 route, I use route 0 in Waypoint+ and Garmin speak. Note also, that in this release, I double the end points. That is, Start and Finish will also have Garmin waypoint names. Because most people don't name their start and finish, Start and Finish. What this means is that when you read the data back, the end points are doubled but named differently. I don't like SA4's method of handling route point names, but then they didn't ask me.
Waypoint+ V1.4.04
Includes support for GPL files and SA4. GPL files are the track log files created by SA4. Waypoint+ will read the file and create track data that can be uploaded to the GPS or saved back to SA4 and lines, or as ASCII. Note that GPL files contain a lot of waypoints. One 15 minutes (one and only one that I've done :) ) contained over 700 points.
Waypoint+ V1.4.03
1.4.03 will read and write SA4 files. This includes waypoints, routes and TRACKS. Yes, Waypoint+ will read tracks from SA4 if drawn with the line draw feature. You can create a track in SA4 and upload it to the GPS. Sort of a mini map. Waypoint+ will also write tracks to SA4 as lines. All prior SA3 options still apply to SA4.
Waypoint+ V1.4.02
(1) You can now delete a waypoint in the Plot window. Move the cursor over the desired waypoint and right click. Choose Delete Waypoint.
(2) You can create a route in the Plot window using existing waypoints. Plot the waypoints. Move the cursor over the desired waypoint and right click, choose add to route. Note: every time you make a new plot window, a new "new" route is created. Routes created this way are always numbered 19 and called SCREEN ROUTE for now. The new route is displayed as you add to it.
Waypoint+ V1.4.00
Nothing much changed here except that Waypoint+ files are the default, TXT files are still there. The main window has been reduced to a minimum. Port setting is under GPS and must be chosen first in order to talk to the GPS, not really a change. Just a cleaned up main window. Everything else should work the same.
Waypoint+ V1.3.18
(1) Track Summary includes nautical miles, miles, and kilometers for distance. Also each track will have the start time and stop time, and total seconds in that segment. Average speed is given in knots, mph, and km/hr. Also, the information is presented in an edit box so the result can be copied and pasted into some other application.
(2) Error messages are now in an Edit box and the info can be copied and pasted into some other application ( like Email back to me :) ).
(3) When editing a route, you can insert a waypoint from the list of currently loaded waypoints. In the List view, press Ctrl-I or Alt-Edit-Insert and a list of names of the available waypoints it shown. Choose the waypoint you want and double click it to insert it in the list. Note that double clicking is the only way to do this at this time.
(4) You can now create a waypoint in the plot window. Move the cursor to the point where you want to do the insert, and right click and choose Create Waypoint from the menu, or press Ctrl-N (New) to create the new waypoint. The Waypoint Editor window appears with the waypoint name of SCREEN and the description of SCREEN POINT. Lat/Long is the location on the screen where the cursor was when the point was created. You edit the name and description and save the results.
Waypoint+ V1.3.17
Track point labels for Street Atlas V3.0 have been formalized in this release. Now tracks points can be a single color (black) or each track segment can have different color of 3 , black, blue, red. I may increase this to five adding yellow and green though these are more difficult to see on SA3. Or you can change the color of a track every minute of travel. Track points can be unlabeled, or, they can have sequential numbers (1:1 1:2 1:3 1:4 ------) or now they can have elapsed time, 00:00:00, 00:00:09, 00:00:23 --- 00:21:43 ---. I'm planning to add actual time.
Waypoint+ V1.3.16
(1)Waypoint+ will write combined waypoint, track and route SA3 files (in that order).
(2)The written SA3 file will center on all data that is plotted
(3)Zoom will include all data that is plotted
