Janus - What is it?
The Janus module is a very high performance, dual, full duplex, A/D and D/A converter board. The Janus board is a component of a system. In conjunction with Ozy (or Magister), Atlas and a suitable power supply it becomes a part of a Software Defined Radio (SDR) system which performs A/D and D/A conversions as well as control functions.
Janus - What it is not!
It is not a PC sound card. It does not function as a stand alone card. It currently requires the Ozy (or Magister) card and the Atlas backplane to provide a functional system.
Janus - Why?
While the M-Audio Delta 44 has become the de-facto standard for A/D sound cards for use with a SDR, there are a number of advantages to rolling your own. These include having complete control of any software drivers needed to communicate with the A/D chips as well as optimization of sampling rates and bit depths for individual signals. It's also possible to cost effectively develop a board which approaches or exceeds the performance of professional high end sound cards. Read more.

Janus Warranty
JANUS IS SOLD ON AN AS-IS BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
All Janus boards will be tested prior to shipment, and all boards will be working when they are shipped. To the extent that we have available inventory, we may, at our discretion, agree to a one time only exchange.
This is a low volume production, experimental item. TAPR is a small, not- for-profit organization of volunteers who have helped facilitate this project because we believe it is a cool thing to have. In order for TAPR to be able to offer this board at all, we must rely on the support of all users in the HPSDR community. The Janus board is basically a group buy that we have chosen to pre-build because of the difficulty of assembly. TAPR expects that Janus buyers will seek help on the HPSDR Discussion List before looking to TAPR for problem resolution.
Support
No support will be available from TAPR staff. You will be expected to join the HPSDR Discussion List and participate in the group discussions of any problems and their solutions. Firmware and software will be available for download from the HPSDR website.
NOTE: The A/D converter U7 (AKM AK5394A) and the VCXO XO1 (CVXO-018TX-50- 12.288) are difficult or impossible to get in small quantities. TAPR recommends that you purchase the Janus Partial Kit if you intend to assemble the board yourself. Due to the difficulty of packaging the ICs by themselves, they will not be available separately from the Janus Partial Kit. For the same reasons, no complete kits of parts can be offered.
ICs WILL BE FACTORY SEALED AND NO RETURNS WILL BE ALLOWED.
