Refer to the layout diagram for clarification of parts placement. All references to up, down, left, and right assume that you are looking at the PCB with the silkscreen TAPR logo oriented up on the board. Unless noted otherwise, all components are mounted on the top of the PC board.
TO-92 refers to those devices that share the same style of case and leads to connect to the circuit. All appear to be a small-signal type transistor with three leads emanating from the bottom of the device. Devices of this type in the kit are voltage regulators, PIOs (1-Wire I/O), a temperature sensor, and V-MOSFETs. Be sure you are installing the correct type at each location before soldering.
These are polarity sensitive devices. If installed wrong and voltage is applied, they will be destroyed, even if for less than a second. Be certain they are correctly aligned with the silkscreen pattern before soldering.
Install the following devices using the procedure outlined above:
DS18S20 1-Wire® Temperature Sensor at U5
DS2405 1-Wire® PIO at U4
DS2405 1-Wire® PIO at U6
VN10KN3 V-MOSFET at Q1. Note the center leg placement.
VN10KN3 V-MOSFET at Q2. Note the center leg placement.
78L12 low power 12V regulator at U12
78L05 low power 5V regulator at U14
If you are using the board with the RM-60 or RM-70 radiation monitor, proceed to the RM-60 installation page and complete Section 1: Power Supply. Otherwise, continue below.
