While nothing wrong at all with Jason's formula - great for manual
calculating - I found it MUCH easier for this math challenged operator
to use VE2DBE's Radio Mobile software instead:

It not only graphicly displays coverage areas, but does HAAT
calculations. There're links on his site to get the Shuttle Radar data
sets. About as good as it gets.
