That explains one. I had recorded the outputs just after satellite lock. Here is the output after good lock. I get an "A" in the $GPRMC. For some reason the new D700A does not want to recognize the deluo gps at all.

$GPRMC,000137.995,A,3900.1463,N,07709.2788,W,000.0,000.0,210704,010.7,W*68
$GPGGA,000138.995,3900.1479,N,07709.2734,W,1,05,01.7,00050.4,M,-34.6,M,,*55
$GPGSA,A,3,01,,16,,,03,,13,,25,,,03.3,01.7,02.8*0E
$GPGSV,3,1,09,01,67,201,41,02,66,035,,16,58,040,36,19,23,182,*79
$GPGSV,3,2,09,20,11,223,,03,52,152,43,27,09,291,,13,40,309,38*74
$GPGSV,3,3,09,25,22,103,32*44
$GPRMC,000138.995,A,3900.1479,N,07709.2734,W,000.0,000.0,210704,010.7,W*6B

One thing I like about the Deluo gps is that they seem to get really fast lock-on to the satellites, much faster than either garmin or the magellan.

Any links to where I can find out more about what the strings mean? I understand NMEA wants $250 for info. Weird.

That generally means it's not locked on, and the data is invalid. How long
did you let it start up for?

That's the basic lat/lon report - $GPRMC and $GPGGA both give you that as
well.

I haven't used the Deluo, but I've got DigiTravelers that will sometimes
take 15 minutes on cold start to get a good lock.
