I had a similar experience using an MFJ TNC as a dumb tracker
several years ago. Nothing helped, tried auxiliary battery, even a
completely separate power supply from the vehicle. I finally had a custom
chip programmed so that when the thing reset it was in GPS mode and all the
settings were already in place.
But this is about the first time I've heard of the Alinco doing
this, so maybe something else is going on. It's basic, and "everybody
knows it", but you might get good results by grounding the rig, ensuring
the power cable is in good shape, etc., i.e. all the "good engineering
practices" we usually take for granted.
