A path that's too long for Seattle is appropriate and necessary in Montana. It's a regional problem. Going beyond manually enter hop counts to "pseudo paths" like LOCAL, REGION and WORLD (or whatever...) would allow the local systems to handle the packets and the users wouldn't have to worry about this trivia.
