It turns out that this unit really doesn't like getting 7.8v on its
input power :-) I rigged to a nice solid 12V and it's working great -
or, at least, as well as the documentation indicates it should.

Not clear that it will be a digi for me as is. I may have to do
a UIDIGI brain transplant; have to find someone local with an
EPROM programmer.
