[aprssig] Perl code to filter packets

I created a perl script that connects to APRS server and searches for a 
particular callsign. http://w9if.net/iweb/perlaprs/index.html

While it works, it is inefficient since it has to look at millions of 
packets when only a few are needed. I believe javAPRSSrv allows the client 
to specify a port to have filtered packets sent. For example, it tells 
javAPRSSrv to send packets from W9IF only. I don't know how to do that in 
perl. Any suggestions?
