Yes, this is exciting. I have been wanting to tie in to Traffic data since 1995 or so. So to implement it, please consider the TRAFFIC.TXT readme file when you get to that point. So that the traffic objects are seamless with the way we are already doing it.... Thanks. Bob >>> mckeehan at mckeehan.homeip.net 4/4/05 9:46:41 PM >>> I have been thinking about generating traffic "objects" in APRS. I my research, I found the following site: http://www.carsprogram.org/public.htm Which says: CARS (Condition Acquisition and Reporting System) is a condition reporting system now used by 10 states to assemble traveler information and to support the dissemination through such things as Traveler Information Web Pages, 511 Telephone Systems, and Highway Advisor Radio/Low Power FM transmitters. It further says: The ERM messages support detailed, real time event summaries or overviews for exchange between TMCs, and from TMCs to ISPs. In addition, the standard format allows subsystems to easily pass on information to the public. CARS uses the national ERM model to transmit and receive data via XML. I have contacted them and asked about getting access to their data to use in the generation of APRS objects. The response that I received said in part: We are currently testing protocols to exchange informaiton across jurisdictional boundries, the message structure is based on national intelligent transportation systems (ITS)standards. As this work matures we will be ready to work with others, right now state to state exchanges are still a challenge. But then again, we are working with services like On-Star to assist in the exchange of emergency information and can now receive information from them. Look forward to getting more information on APRS and to explore this further with you.
