It's a good question, but seeing that you already know of the move to the
new paradigm, and presumably why we are moving away from RELAY, WIDE
and TRACE, why not boycott RELAY and WIDE and just not use them? Yes,
you may end up with your own beacons not being digipeated in certain areas,
but by not using RELAY or WIDE, you would be part of the solution and not
part of the problem. You would be setting a good example for others. It's a
decision you will have to make. Is it more essential that your beacon is
digipeated, or is it more essential to conserve bandwidth by not using a
dupe-causing path? If your primary concern is making sure that your beacon
is digipeated, then you would be forced to use the obsolete settings to 
match the obsolete environment that you will be operating in.
