Fred,

A Kantronics box or TNC2 with UIDIGI ROM or XDigi/TNC-X will get
you going most quickly. But if you know you are going to put
an IP connection and run the IGATE *there*, you might take
a look at running digi_ned on a modified WRT54G. Look here

It's more work, especially because you have to do some hardware
mods and software loads, but it might be closer to what you
want in the long run.

I don't think anyone has tried to port IRLP/EchoLink to it .. yet.
