I loved the idea of the D-Star till' I saw the price of just 1. My idea was for last mile Internet to the repeater site since 1.2 would work but 2.4 WiFi is pushing the path a bit. If they ever get the mobiles down to the $500 range I think they got a winner but the last price I saw was somewhere near $1200!! It's been slow in reaching the masses. There's a javAPRS varient for it now, and we're doing some other work with it. Short form: It will work for APRS. Long answer: Its utility will be determined as more folks get hardware and repeaters. Icom's got a promotion available now for clubs: Buy 9 D-Star capable mobiles or handhelds and get a repeater. gerry Andrew Rich wrote: > > _______________________________________________ > aprssig mailing list > aprssig at lists.tapr.org > https://lists.tapr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/aprssig -- Gerry Creager -- gerry.creager at tamu.edu Texas Mesonet -- AATLT, Texas A&M University Cell: 979.229.5301 Office: 979.458.4020 FAX: 979.847.8578 Page: 979.228.0173 Office: 903A Eller Bldg, TAMU, College Station, TX 77843 _______________________________________________ aprssig mailing list aprssig at lists.tapr.org https://lists.tapr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/aprssig
