After the cygwin install finishes, you have to create a shortcut on your desktop to the "graphic" bash shell. This short cut should point to C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\startxwin.bat Then double click on that shortcut, and type "XASTIR" or "XASTIR &" Actually, since the shortcut will always be the same, you could probably store it in the usb flash stick too and just copy over to the desktop.
