[aprssig] Additional IGates ?

I put up an IGate a few months ago at my home location. The thing that has
amazed me is the number of stations that I am the first to IGate and really,
how far away some of these stations are.

It seems to me that more IGates would be a good thing and would not hurt
anything; especially listen-only IGates.

I am thinking about recommending to some of the regional clubs that people
interested in APRS who have a full-time internet connection install an IGate
at their house. With a soundmodem interface, all they need to do this would be
a receiver (or if they want to get elaborate and gate to RF, a transceiver).

If you were going to recommend that novices put up IGates, what software would
you recommend for them? If I make this recommendation, am I looking for
trouble?
