TMC *is* available in the US, in two variants:

The traffic data that's being sent over satellite radio to a
couple of models of car (an Acura and a Cadillac) is TMC
data. Right now there's one feed for the whole country, so
the information isn't very dense.

A separate feed is using the traditional approach of
FM subcarrier in a few markets.

Oh, wait, there's a third one being used by the TomTom
device that gets the data over a GPRS network...

It's coming to the US. Very slowly.
