electrician, amateur, I am appalled at the comments by Motorola employee 
Jim Screeden ...  
The amateur radio system that he 
refers to as "better than nothing. but pretty close to nothing" has 
continued to function and in many situations is now the only choice.  
Nicely said, but In general it was a poorly constructed article.  It says: "ham radio -- whose technology has changed little since World War II ..." then says: "myriad ways, including Morse code, microwave frequencies and even email"
I took particular notice of the WW II technology comment. 
I also emailed Jim. (internally)...
