[aprssig] Kent Island digi gone? AA3JY-4

There used to be a digi called AA3JY-4 that gave excellent coverage here.
It seems to be gone. Anyone know what happened to it?
If I wanted to make one to replace it, what would be a good setup for 
both an Igate and a digi?
Would a system using a burned eprom in an old MFJ TNC be better?
