You asked Bob and I'd suggest, Neither with most KPC-3+ TNCs (v8.3 and up).
This is needed in the KPC-3 (non plus) v8.2, as in
UIdigi ON WIDE1-1,WIDE4-4,WIDE3-3,WIDE3-2
for a "W2,SSn" digi with a S overlay character on it's map symbol.
But for a basic "W1,fill-in" digi with a 1 overlay character on it's map
symbol, just only
UIdigi ON WIDE1-1
