So, do we know if the newer Garmin units have only USB or do they have serial as well? How can this be connected to the d700a directly without a computer? You can't. Fun with USB... Even something like a USB->Serial converter cannot be used in this case. Those are designed for the computer end of a USB cable. I know of no way to convert an end-device from USB to serial, although perhaps somebody has created a more intelligent device that can do this now.
