Look at packets sent by some digi with UIDIGI ROM. One of them is WB9WOZ-15. Checking http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=WB9WOZ-15 there is no any status. Because station does not send any packet with > as is stated in APRSspec chapter 5, page 17: "every APRS packet contains an APRS Data Type Identifier" and in the table below identifier for status is > Checking packets of all kinds from WB9WOZ-15 http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/raw.cgi?call=WB9WOZ-15&start=3&length=3&time=1 we see packets with position: !4153.00NS08738.00W#PHG7560/NIAN.APRS.NET The identifier is ! i.e. position without timestamp, no messaging. And in addition we packets as: UIDIGI 1.9 BETA 1 So, first character is U not > In such case APRS client can not read this packet as station status. In the identifiers table U is marked as [do not use]. According to APRSspec should be: >UIDIGI 1.9 BETA 1 73!
