Leszek In the beginning APRS was a tactical real-time digital communications system allowing everyone at an event or net to see everything. Messages, bulletins, etc without having to connect. This was in 1980's. Then in 1992 we added maps and position display and got our first cheap GPS in 1993. So APRS is a communications system to ALL first. Vehicle tracking, WX and DFing were all added to it when we added maps. They are all equally important. Unfortunately, some programs are more focused on the maps and vehicle stuff. That is not what APRS is primarily about. It is about communicating anything and everything briefly to everyone in range so that everyone is kept up-to-date with current information. That is why some programs do poorly at APRS messaging and poorly at maintaining many objects on the map or gloss over a lot of information the user needes to operate efficiently in the net.
