You know I have been watching the discussions about the D700 and I find it odd that there are so many intelligent ham radio ops out there that someone has not come out with a software definable radio, with a working group. What would be cool is we were removed from the "restraints" of manufacturers and can dabble. Oh well one day we will have dsp radios. Cheers Andy. ----------------------------------------- Andrew Rich - VK4TEC vk4tec at tech-software.net <mailto:vk4tec at tech-software.net> www.tech-software.net Brisbane AUSTRALIA -----Original Message----- From: aprssig-bounces at lists.tapr.org [mailto:aprssig-bounces at lists.tapr.org]On Behalf Of Jason Winningham Sent: Wednesday, 4 January 2006 10:47 PM To: TAPR APRS Mailing List Subject: Re: [aprssig] The best resolution of position from APRS On Jan 3, 2006, at 11:09 PM, Robert Bruninga wrote: > Isnt it great that the radio is still completely compatible with > APRS. ... only after retracting/rolling back parts of the spec, apparently. That doesn't quite fit my idea of "compatible", but it does make me think of the old joke: How many Microsoft employees does it take to change a light bulb? None - they redefine darkness as the industry standard. I personally would like to see more effort in actual advancements to APRS, and less effort keeping everything frozen in time so that we're backwards compatible with 10 or 20 year old designs. -Jason kg4wsv _______________________________________________ aprssig mailing list aprssig at lists.tapr.org https://lists.tapr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/aprssig
