The NMEA output shouldn't change.  The format is part of the NMEA 0183
specification.  Remember that your Garmin GPS uses an entirely different
internal representation (probably IEEE 64-bit floating point in radians) for
its position, and translates that (with varying amounts of rounding error)
into the appropriate formats for display and for NMEA output.
