I am trying to get a discussion started on a layer 3 network design for the OpenTrac protocol. This is off-topic for the APRSSIG, so please don't reply on the APRSSIG. The OpenTrac spec, as it stands, describes a presentation layer (OSI layer 6). The spec does not directly address layer 3 issues. Among possible topics would be: addressing - unicast, multicast, and broadcast addressing schemes, SSIDs routers - define requirements and behavior of OpenTrac routers interfacing to various layer 2 networks - AX.25, OpenTrac UDP/IP*, and APRS-IS over TCP/IP come immediately to mind. this would include address mapping/resolution issues. (* yes, I know UDP is IP layer 4) gateways - how to properly gateway OT packets to other networks such as APRS-RF, APRS-IS, and vice-versa "QoS" - address data loss/FEC at a higher layer. If you are interested in such a discussion, please subscribe to the opentrac-spec list: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/opentrac-spec -Jason kg4wsv
