I am running WinXP Home with IE6 and Office 97.

Office97 is four versions out of date. If upgrading isn't an option, you can
download a free viewer from Microsoft that'll handle the current file
versions.
It might be feasible for somebody running a newer version to try a SaveAs to
the old version (I think you can SaveAs to as far back as PPT97), but
there's always a risk it'll get messed up completely if any of the new PPT
features were used.
