You could probably get away with not running the genset at all if you had a solar panel or two dedicated to the nav/comm system. You say that it's "fully isolated"; is it mechanically isolated, or electrically isolated? e.g.: is it completely separated from the rest of the electrical system (no connection other than the genset), or is it run through a diode/inductor/capacitor filter network? -- John "Smokey Behr" Gleichweit FF1/EMT, CCNA, MCSE IPN-CAL023 N6FOG UP Fresno Sub MP183.5 ECV1852 List Owner x6, Moderator x4 CA-OES 51-507 -----Original Message----- From: aprssig-bounces at lists.tapr.org [mailto:aprssig-bounces at lists.tapr.org]On Behalf Of WB4GQK at aol.com Sent: Tuesday, January 24, 2006 4:31 AM To: aprssig at lists.tapr.org Subject: Re: [aprssig] Anyone running APRS on a LCD in a car ? <snip> Very very fortunately nothing happens very fast on a sailboat and consequently the 3 programs that are running simultaneously are not too demanding, besides the 1 GB of RAM seems to satisfy their demands. I just keep the battery charged by running the genset for 30 minutes every 3 hours. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
