Regarding the piping of /dev/ttyS0 across an Internet
connection, read up on the "socat" utility.

I just did this last night.  My computer running
Xastir is not in the same location as my TNC.  So the
TNC is plugged into one computer and its serial port
is bonded to a TCP socket using socat.  On the Xastir
machine, another instance of socat bonds TCP to a
local PTY that Xastir is able to open.
