SD9 has been recovered! Oddly, though, there was no trace of the balloon - just the payload on the ground. The descent rate indicated that the balloon was still attached all the way to the ground, so what happened? Here's an excerpt from the email I received from W4AVO, the gentleman who found the balloon: "It looks like it might have hung in a tree and detached from the canopy. The baloon was nowhere to be found- it could be in North Carolina! The instrumentation and transmitter pod landed as NASA called Apollo capsules 'stable-2' i.e. upside-down on its antenna. Its last packet was 20z today- about an hour before it was found in a creekbed in a pile of leaves behind a tree." 73 Robert KC8UCH
