Here's an odd thought that perhaps someone on the list can answer. There is a
"1/2AA" battery size, and you can buy them in lithium 3.6V for $6-15 each from
many sources. But are there any "1/2AA" NiCd or NiMh cells out there? Putting
eight of them in the Kenwood alkaline holder would be a nice way to get 10 volts
with 600-1000mA possible capacity, figuring half of generic rechargable AA
capacity was available.

Might be a good solution for other APRS portable devices as well.
