If you skip the speaker and just do the mic half, one possibility would 
be the housings used by CB "power mics" used by the 11-meter crowd.  
These mics with active preamps in them usually have a molded-in  
internal holder for a battery similar to a 123.    You can see them at 
any large truck stop convenience store.
