[aprssig] Slightly OT: TM-V7A transmit audio?

I've been getting reports that the transmitted (voice) audio from my 
TM-V7A and its standard microphone is not good.  The peak deviation is 
OK, but the audio lacks bass and sounds thin, both in comparison to my 
voice on an Icom IC-706, and to other users on the repeater.

Have others had this problem, and if so, is there a fix?
