[aprssig] Question about track results

I just finished a vacation trip with the family and was reviewing the 
reporting from the trip on 12/27 using the aprs.fi site. I noticed that 
there seems to be quite a few black-out locations along the way - 
surprisingly in some areas where I would expect great coverage. Any 
comment on how I can evaluate why the reason?

Basic settings:
    TM-D700 radio
    transmission every 3 mintues
    WIDE 1-1, WIDE 2-2 (I know can mean a lot of hops, but to cover the 
remote I-5 areas
