Please consider setting your TNC for PROPORTIONAL PATHING as shown on this web page.  It significantly reduces QRM to surrounding areas while still giving you frequent updates locally:

It gives a local packet every minute,
a 1 hop packet 2 of every 3 minutes
a 2 hop packet 1 of every 6 minutes
a 3 hop packet 1 of every 12 minutes

etc.
