The APRS-IS Core Servers have today added several new port connections, allowing enhanced flexibility in the filtering of the APRS-IS data stream. Most notably, ports have been introduced which mirror the previously available ports, but pre-filter the stream to eliminate the non-amateur CWOP data. Some amateurs have expressed concern about the cluttering of APRS maps by the vast number of CWOP stations. Use of these new ports will eliminate this issue. A new filtered history port has also been added which allows the same filter parameters previously available on the User Defined Filter Port (port 14580) to a 30 minute history port. This can be useful for applications such as javAPRS that want a historical dump of data, but only in a particular area (or for particular data types, etc.). This new history port, as with all history ports, is a one-way port that only provides data to the client. New port numbers have been generated to provide the new functionality. Prior port functionality is unchanged. The complete listing of port definitions can be found on the status pages of the core servers (first.aprs.net:14501, second.aprs.net:14501, and third.aprs.net:14501). Information is also available on the Core Server Website (http://core.aprs.net). Users connecting to the core servers are encouraged to review the new port options and modify their connections as they see appropriate.
