[aprssig] GPS patch antenna alternatives

Why wouldn't a 1/4 work ?

I just made a crude 1/4 out of some small solder and put it into the BNC
connector on my Garmin GPS V. No ground plane, just a wire about 1.5 in long.
Inside the house where coverage is not too good, it still got 4-5 sats and kept
tracking. Sig strengths were comparable to the Garmin antenna, but for
different sats.
