The problem with this concept is that most "pass-to-RF" lists in IGates are for stations of -origin-, not message -destination- stations. This is by design since an IGate is supposed to only gate to RF messages destined for a station heard on RF and not heard directly on APRS-IS. This also prevents people from abusing local RF environments by sending broadcast messages which would be gated to all RF networks. 73, Pete Loveall AE5PL > -----Original Message----- > From: Robert Bruninga > Posted At: Friday, October 05, 2007 8:32 AM > Subject: [aprssig] SCOUTS to RF > > In support of Youth, the APRS network is supposed to pass all > messages to SCOUTS to RF, so that scout outings and > demonstrations can easily find each other by sending a message > to SCOUTS as a way of finding other groups. > > We hope all Igates that want to support scouting will add the > callsign SCOUTS to his "pass-to-RF list" in their area. > Scouting groups should also add SCOUTS to their message-group > list, so that their stations will receive any such messages. > > This is completely dependent on the local APRS I-gate operator > having added the callsign SCOUTS to his "pass-to-RF list" in his > area. Many have not done this, so there are no guarantees.
