Thanks to everyone who contributed to a new hard drive system for findU. After investigating the issues involved in adding a RAID system, it turned out to be far easier and only $1k more expensive to replace the server (Dell had some amazing discounts on servers last month), which is what I decided to do. The new server (8 core Xeon, 8GB ram, 6x146GB 15k SCSI RAID 1+0) is in its co-lo site and being configured and tested now, to be swapped out late this week or next. As I've said before, there is nothing too difficult about programming findU, the hard part is in setting up and maintaining the servers. findU is literally hundreds of small pieces, and configuring a new server is a hair pulling experience. I'm sure I've forgotten something, so I'd like your help in checking out the new server. To do this, take any www.findu.com URLs you use, and replace www with mangrove, for example http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=k4hg-8 becomes http://mangrove.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=k4hg-8&terra=4 If you find something that does not work please email to me off-list. And if you'd like to contribute to offset the $1k I spent out of pocket, it is most appreciated, use the PayPal link on many of findU's pages. With this new machine, findU has two servers that should be able to handle the load for the next several years. Thanks, Steve K4HG
