Hi Steve, If you charge the battery from a wall-wart, the plug goes into the D7 body, and from there to the battery. There are two battery contacts in this path, so it must be a low-current (theoretically floatable) charge rate. The drop-in charger contacts the battery back directly, and there are three contacts on the battery for this. I presume this means that it's a fast charge, with automatic cutoff, though I'm not sure on the charge time. I got mine n-th hand (n is more than two), and don't have the manuals for the chargers.
