My 2 cents from the fire / EMS / HazMat field is to use this symbol ONLY for hazardous materials / toxic spills incidents as that is what the symbol is universally recognized for in the emergency response community, and in several countries. Reference the DOT 2008 Emergency Response Guidebook and Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). I don't thiink that the amatuer radio community should bastardize an already recognized symbol just for our pleaseure. Actually, come to think about it.. that is a very common symbol... Hummh... Maybe APRS should have one. We could use it for toxic spills or APRS pirates... Anyway, I am willing to consider adding a "skull and crossbones" ... My suggestion is to add it to the HAZARDOUS alternate symbol using an overlay of X. So "XH" would decode to skull&crossbones... I updated the overlay web page: http://www.aprs.org/aprs11/symbols-new.txt Bob, WB4aPR _______________________________________________ aprssig mailing list aprssig at lists.tapr.org https://lists.tapr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/aprssig -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
