Keep in mind that here in Utah there is no stipulation on the number of firearms that one may conceal. I have started classes by asking how many people think I'm carrying. The most I've ever done was 2 in a fanny pack, two inside vest pockets, two in shoulder rigs, one in an ankle holster, and one FBI mode. I could have added a couple more, but it was only for illustration. But, given that this is the case, for APRS - which one would one select if one was to select one? I'm done now. www.jeepgunner.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott Miller" <scott at opentrac.org> To: "K7FTP" <k7ftp at k7ftp.net>; "TAPR APRS Mailing List" <aprssig at lists.tapr.org> Sent: Wednesday, August 20, 2008 7:37 PM Subject: Re: [aprssig] New APRS Baby-on-board symbol ? > If we were using the hierarchical symbol system from OpenTRAC (itself > derived from MIL-STD-2525B) then specifying exact weapon type wouldn't be > a problem. > > Now, dealing with multiple attributes and a taxonomy that's not completely > hierarchical (caliber vs. manufacturer, as you pointed out) adds some > additional complications. > > Scott > N1VG > > K7FTP wrote: >> Putting aside the whole "concealed" carry aspect (which one does not >> advertise), how granular would we want to get with this? >> >> Glock >> Colt >> Beretta >> etc. >> >> Then some modifier for 9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP, .357, etc. >> >> Then there would be the rifles that one might be carrying... >> >> www.jeepgunner.com >> >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Amateur Radio WB8NUT" <duffy at wb8nut.com> >> To: <jdv at iglou.com>; "TAPR APRS Mailing List" <aprssig at lists.tapr.org> >> Sent: Wednesday, August 20, 2008 2:46 PM >> Subject: Re: [aprssig] New APRS Baby-on-board symbol ? >> >> >>> The skull and cross bones may be taken as a person with poison in their >>> vehicle :-) >>> >>> I think a simple human figure with gun in hand would make a nice symbol >>> for a person out and about carrying ARPS and a concealed weapon for >>> defense. >>> >>> JMHO >>> >>> Duffy >>> www.wb8nut.com >>> >>> John Vause wrote: >>>> >>>> I nominate a cannon or crossed-rifles symbol.
