I was hoping for a simple MCU based decoder.

I am not about to rebuild a LINUX box just to get that going.

  If you have a soundcard try a debian distro with "soundmodem".
  This can be used with javaaprssrv and i.e MySQL

  You could also pipe the data from soundmodem to an sql server with very little work.
