Rory, Since nobody answered the question that you posted, I now have the answer that you were looking for. The 6 pin DIN "Data" port IS active at all times and WILL allow the input/output of audio on the port when in APRS mode. After playing with the radio this weekend it is now possible to have smart beaconing with NO modifications to the radio! I hope this answers the question. Now for the Next question: Does anyone have the pin-out for the RF Deck to Control head? RJ-45 cable. This control head is VERY cool, and I have another project that I would like to use it for, but I need the pinout and the control protocol!
