CQSRVR: I made dozens of CQ FD APRS contacts via Pete's CQSRVR. Not just Field Day, but this GLOBAL MESSAGE GROUP capability is a fantastic new capability that I think is under utilized in APRS. Groups such as SATERN, AMSAT, etc should conisder using this new global group messaging capabiltity for large area coordination. Using only your APRS radio, you can be in communication with all other APRS people in your group. For example, everyone involved in a Launch Campaign could send a message to a group named "SAT-X" and then everyone else in that SAT-X group (anywhere in the world) would get that message live. See the web page: http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/cqsrvr.html Other Groups are SATERN, or ARES, or RACES, or MARS, or JOTA, SCR and even CQ FD or anything else. No prior set up is required. Just send a message to any group name of your choice. APRS is about communicating LIVE with other operators. APRS has always had message groups, but before the CQSRVR, the groups only worked on local RF (or APRS-IS-only). But now with CQSRVR written by AE5PL, much larger dispersed groups can now maintain communications globally in real time using APRS. Plan on it! APRS is more than vehicle tracking! Bob, WB4APR
