In the LA basin, digipeaters trap packets to one hop only. (5000 foot digis cover the area)...  

A one-hop digi supports only WIDE1-1 and WIDE2-2 and WIDE3-3 in the callsign-substitution UIDIGI list.   That would properly trap to one hop, all of the normally recommended paths:

WIDE1-1
WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1
WIDE2-2
WIDE3-3
