[aprssig] d700 minidin question

Can anyone confirm for me that the minidin on the d700 is/isn't lockable to
one side of the radio?  I remember that the tm-g707 allowed you to lock the
minidin to the left or right side of the radio.  My situation is that I'd
like to hook an external TNC to the d700 for tracking.  Best case, I lock
the minidin to the left side of the radio and use the external tnc and gain
smart beaconing.  Worst case, I hook the external TNC up to the speaker jack
and use the external tnc for rx only whilst the kenwood tnc does the TX for
me.  The disadvantage of this method is that I don't have smart beaconing
and I loose the voice alert capability.
The reason for this is that walmart has the garmin nuvi350 on sale for $175
and I want to use it with Scott's T2 tracker.
