We did tracking on 6.2 MHz for years (AX.25 at 300 baud) and had
great performance (over water mostly) but with plenty of land in
between using 100W SSB xmtrs at a 10 minute rate for up to 20
boats.  Most of the time we had a good idea where they were
within an hour or so while the sun was up.  Got practically
nothing from midnight to sunrise...
