Depends on what you mean by alternate GUI.

There are some preprocessor directives for xastir that can cause
different fonts, toolbar layouts, etc to be used to make it a little
more friendly to small displays.

If you mean porting to some other graphical interface, like Qt that is
used as the GUI on some mobile devices, no.  It has been discussed,
and may be an option for version 2, but the current motif/X11 GUI is
all there is, and anything else would require extensive work to add.
