Here's an excerpt from my notes on the III+:

20 character comments
No altitude
No waypoint list refresh
Lower case terminates comment
Valid name characters: A-Z, 0-9, + - <space>
Valid comment characters: A-Z, 0-9, ? ; : / . - , + * ) ( ' & # " ! <space>

Pretty sure it's limited to 6-character waypoint names, too.
