A fellow ham pointed out:

Carrying this one step further....the ARRL sends traffic in the blind on 
their daily transmissions from W1AW.  Whether it be CW, RTTY, etc it's 
one way and no response is expected back to W1AW.  It is expected that 
the recipient will be a ham....however...some 'not yet' hams use this 
for code practice.
